4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars Really loved this book., December 15, 2010 First off, this is the second book in the Rabbit series and I recommend reading the first, Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider before this one. It is a continuation of the first story but takes place seven years after book #1 ends.

I should probably say that when I finished Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider I had no idea there was going to be two more. And so while reading I wasn't searching for any clues about what might come next. That's why when I started Rabbit Legacy it was really like starting out fresh again. About a third through I was really happy with what was going on here. First I was happy with it taking place seven years in the future. This meant that we got to skip all the gritty details of the in-between years. And let's face it, not everyone has a big adventure twice (or three times) in a row. It was a lot more realistic to me that these in-between years occurred but I was glad that as readers we got to pick up again when all the action was starting up for a second time. And then I was really happy with all the back-story between two of the characters - Roman and Javier - and the addition of some fresh new faces to spruce things up a bit. And speaking of sprucing things up, the rules have changed, the Rakuum understand the power of "Beth's God", and there are all sorts of interesting things happening here.

In terms of spiritual lessons, this book is an abundance of them. I really never even thought the term "vampire Christian book" was possible in this sense but I can see from reading this book (in my case, even more so than the first one) that the pairing of vampires and spiritual lessons is just perfect. My favourite line, spoken by Rakuum leader Rufus is "I know the plans I have for you and they are all about me." My jaw literally dropped and I had to blink away my shock. This is God's assurance to us but twisted in a selfish way. God says that he has plans for us and they are not to harm us. Considering the way these creatures think of themselves as gods, this line is really something to ponder. Yet Ellen Maze also makes it clear that if they are willing to acknowledge and come to Him, God will allow it. There is `salvation' for all. But my biggest eureka moments in this book, and this is what I held on to in the last book as well, was just what makes people do things they know are bad for them. Why do people have such a hard time with temptation and lust that they are not living the way they want to. Or that it has so completely taken over their lives that they don't see reason for any other way of living. Really, it made me think of my own attitude towards certain things in my life. And I think that's what makes a great book. This is such an amazing book for that and I haven't even scratched the surface here. There really is an abundance of thought-provoking questions (and answers) that it seems like there is something for everyone.

I really loved this book and recommend readers of Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider to keep on reading. Don't be scared of sequels. This was just as great as the first! If you haven't started the series yet, I recommend you do. And if you are Christian and already a Paranormal Fantasy reader what is stopping you? I can't wait to get my hands on Rabbit Redemption and am just really grateful that there will be other books by Ellen Maze until then.

(Water, that is) This is such a fantastic series! Who would've ever thought that a vampire story could be told like this one! I loved getting "loose rabbits" because it was SO helpful understanding older relationships that you briefly touched on in this book. I think it would've been a cool book to have from the start but to be honest, that was story line building. This was the meat of the series and the companion book was an awesome idea.!
PLEASE...keep them coming. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do after the last one is out...since it's a trilogy...what will you feed us with next?

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Follow -up!, October 20, 2010 I'm a teen reader and I usually read werewolves and fantasy like Eragon, but I am hooked with the Rabbit books. I thought Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider was a wild ride. In Legacy, a bad guy rises up to taunt and torture all those who would stand with Beth Rider and I was on the edge of my seat every chapter. All of the characters their own personalities and quirks and I loved seeing what they might do next. This is a vampire tale to be sure, but the way the author writes makes it so much more. You'll be drawn in from page one. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Jack's proselyte Michael Stone was brought up from his youth to be strong, sensible and oftentimes, brutal. But at one 130, Michael is old enough to appreciate the quiet and ordered life he'd carved out for himself over the years. Aware that his Elder has marked a human for death, Michael is on the lookout as he leaves work late one night. When he stumbles upon the beautiful and apparently innocent Beth Rider, he is instantly smitten, despite the fact that a few seconds later he realizes that she is the target of his Elder's fury. Puzzled by Jack's unreasonable condemnation, Michael takes it upon himself to protect the lovely author from the limitless lust of his brethren.

Facing the most terrifying trial of her life against creatures known only in fables, one simple woman will unintentionally threaten the very existence of a powerful and accursed people. In the climactic mêlée, it is a race to the death, or if Beth has her way, a race to the life-of every Rakum who makes the choice.

A recovering vampire/horror fanatic, Ellen uses her experience in that subculture to bring the Light into the vampire genre. Addicting and delicious, Ellen’s brand of story-telling is rife with deep character study and honest emotion. Ellen graduated from Huntingdon College in with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology so it’s no wonder that she loves to wiggle her way into your head. "Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider" is one of the most original and courageous novels I've read in a long time. There's no way around it, so I might as well just spit it out:

this is a Christian story about vampires. Or possibly it's a vampire story about Christians.

If that offends thee, you might as well stop right here!

Ellen herself is an interesting person, who could be a character from the pages of her novel. She is a Messianic Jew who lives in Alabama. Sounds like a mythical creature? Turns out, she's mystical instead.

Much of Ellen's research comes out of her heritage. Her vampires are called "Rakum," based on an old Hebrew word. And make no mistake: these vampires are not the near-vegetarian milksops of the "Twilight" variety. The predators of the old vampiric tales, and of Ms. Maze's novel, would eat them for breakfast.

Instead, "Rabbit's" blood-suckers are ancient creatures of biblical proportions.

The center of good in the story is the title character, Beth Rider. And "rabbit" refers to the state in which she is transformed by a powerful vampire.

Beth Rider is a novelist, and her most recent effort suggests that there is a way the Rakum can leave their demonic state and find life. Her nemesis is offended, and he comes to teach the puny woman a lesson. He has the ability to transform her into delicious prey that will bring the brethren from far and wide, to sample her female charms, and feed on her.

We know what rabbits do - they run!

But Beth has an unusual ally among the Rakum. And more importantly, she possesses a secret weapon - one that may save her life, and threaten the entire race of ancient monsters.

"Rabbit" is a romance, no question, one with a strong female lead, akin to the "Twilight" series. But there many of the similarities end, for Ellen Maze's story faces the essential evil of the Rakum race, and instead of seduction, offers redemption.

A word of warning: this may ruin other vampire stories for you.

Within the 340 pages of Ellen Maze's book: Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider we are given a believable beginning for the vampire race and exposed to the contortions of that evil society without soiling one's sensibilities in the standards of the trade; lust, porn, and gore. Mrs. Maze's thesis of faith-based battling of evil challenged my views of my own theological adequacy. I tackled this novel with the intent to find fault with it's theology but came away seeing "the plank" in my own eye.

The depth of the characters, the solid theology, a this-could-really-happen storyline, and the self-examination brought about by this reading left me wanting to meet these people, help their efforts, and encounter their God. I truly admonish all to join the chase and seek the Rabbit.

Yes, Rabbit wlll shake your world. There is only one bit of advice to be given: READ THIS ONE!
